5 Simple Ways to Thank Your Paraprofessional

February 4, 2023

Here are 5 simple ways to thank your paraprofessional for all their hard work. As a special education teacher we know that they are the backbone to our classrooms. A great chemistry between a para and teacher is key. I am about to share 5 EASY ways to thank your para. I truly believe you should be thanking them verbally everyday, but here are some ways to show them some extra love!

1. Simple note

Writing your para a simple note of gratitude can go a long way! This is something that can be done on a sticky note, note card, or whiteboard!! Taking the time to share words of wisdom and praise can really boost someones day!!

2. Token of appreciation

A simple gesture might be, buying them a candy bar, purchasing lunch for them, doing their duty before/after school, buying them hand sanitizer, etc. This does not have to be an over the top purchase or drain your own bank account.

3. Beverage of choice

Starting or ending your paras day with their favorite beverage can add some pep to their step. Have a long week? 5 day week after a few shorter weeks? End the week on a sweet note with a beverage of their choice. It can be a bug gulp of soda, latte, cold brew from Target, Crystal light packets etc. Or if you and your para want go out after school to get those “adult beverages” and reflect on the week being done and a relaxing weekend ahead!!

4. Giftcards

Before you roll your eyes, I am not saying take your entire paycheck and buy a gift card. A $5 Amazon or Target gift card is great, Starbucks or even fast food restaruant they love!! I usually save higher monetary amounts for the holidays and their birthday!

5. Stock up on snacks

Keep a secret drawer with snacks they love…and you love too! This way if you forget your lunch, have a rough day, need a little pick me up you can go to the “secret drawer”. I use my “drawer” at least once a week to grab something if I am extra hungry and just need something sugary to keep me going!

I hope you found that these 5 simple ways to thank your paraprofessional to be helpful! However, along with that secret drawer you should definitely make a Teacher Bag too!
